This 93-square-meter apartment sits near a park and lake in Astana, Kazakhstan. The design approach focuses on openness and efficient use of space, with a unified kitchen and living area, minimized corridors, and well-organized rooms.
Architecture, volume, and lighting
An island sofa anchors the main living area, emphasizing the apartment’s overall volume. After reconfiguring the layout, three large windows were incorporated, with the largest positioned opposite a natural marble island from Italian brand Antolini. Light reflecting off the polished marble changes the room’s atmosphere throughout the day, while blinds help control and shape light and shadow.
Subtle accents
A simple, geometric layout creates a pared-down interior reminiscent of a blank canvas. Natural oak veneer was selected for paneling and cabinetry fronts, complementing the kitchen island made of Carrara marble. These natural materials bring a sense of grounding and calm to the space.
Interior window
Because the master bathroom’s dimensions did not allow for an external window, the designers introduced an interior window that opens toward the bedroom. This provides natural light while adding a visual connection. The bedroom itself is purposefully dark and enclosed, offering a restful environment.
