The project is located in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. The site sits within a valley between two dramatic elevated escarpments. The brief was to provide a retreat from the urban context that was immersed in its landscape and sat comfortably and at ease within its context.
Materials have been selected that reflect the harsh environmental conditions and that also age according to the light, rain and wind as do the trees and surrounding rock formations.
A large cantilevered roof extends towards the east to form a canopy which allows one to sit and be protected.
A finely detailed, thin roof edge profile accentuates and references the surrounding trees as the also become thinner as they reach out and extend towards the sky.
