Best Practice Architecture joined forces with a notable Seattle chef to collaborate on the flagship location for Mt. Joy, a casual eatery dedicated to promoting regenerative farming and sustainable practices. Committed to sourcing ingredients within a 200-mile radius, Mt. Joy prioritizes the health of the planet, animals, and humans by examining the carbon emissions and sequestration opportunities along its supply chain. The new restaurant boasts a vibrant ambiance with a prominent connection to the street. Best Practice’s design incorporates brightly lit signage and a blend of textures and colors to create a friendly setting, accentuating Mt. Joy's commitment to sustainability.
Mt. Joy is nestled in Seattle’s lively Capitol Hill neighborhood, between two busy streets. Best Practice incorporated brightly lit exterior signage to enliven the restaurant’s historic brick facade and stand out in the urban environment. While the existing storefront had many intriguing features, Mt. Joy was most excited to take advantage of the large, glass overhead garage door and its potential for an open connection to the street. Best Practice maximized this feature to enhance the dining experience and promote a welcoming atmosphere. When the door is open, diners can sit at the counter and enjoy people-watching.
With the kitchen tucked in the back but visible through a large pass-through, Best Practice designed the eat-in restaurant to envelop diners as they enter, creating an inviting space that transports patrons from their daily grind. Custom green metal shelving wraps around the dining area and front counter, providing storage for wares, displaying merchandise, and holding pick-up orders. The chunky textured countertops nicely complement the glossy white tile and yellow grout on the perimeter walls. A comfy, upholstered island provides seating and space for lush planting. Bright pops of color in the furniture and vibrant graphics abound, making the restaurant feel alive.
Best Practice’s design seamlessly integrates sustainability with functionality, resulting in a space that reflects Mt. Joy’s mission and provides a unique dining experience in the heart of Capitol Hill.
