Multifunctioneel gebouw Schlossberg, Boeblingen

Multifunctioneel gebouw Schlossberg, Boeblingen

The design for Schlossberg, in the centre of the south German city of Böblingen creates an icon, a monument of the future, intertwined with the existing city.

Present textures of the urban squares on either side of the hill; Marktplatz and Postplatz, are growing towards each other transforming where they meet into a new glass shape. This two-dimensional concept is translated into the third dimension, creating a new urban texture and new volumes that shape the building. The diverse programme of museum, day care centre, city hall, restaurant and citizen centre is split into three separate volumes. These volumes are connected by a large entry hall, which allows the building to be used as a whole or as individual volumes.

The new building is a landmark for its environment, while forming a unity with the structure of the city. It draws itself next to the existing church building, commincating with its environment. Going around the Schlossberg, the presence of the new museum tower can be felt, but is never dominant.
