The fact that the building has stood on the same site for more than 500 years reflects the working methods and philosophy of its occupant—a third-generation notary in the area—who, much like the multi-award-winning grocery store “Loder,” encourages people to linger in the region by offering detailed advice and addressing individual needs.
Since this project involves the revitalization of one of the oldest buildings in the market town of Kumberg, it blends seamlessly into its surroundings.
During the renovation (roof, windows, front door, wall paint, etc.), explicit care was taken to align with the surroundings and harmonize with them.
It was very important to the client to restore the historic structure to its original condition and to highlight its historical character.
In selecting materials, special attention was paid to environmental sustainability and the use of regional building materials.
The project provides a counterpoint to the fast pace of modern life through a conscious commitment to preserving what already exists, the use of building materials that have long been available in the region, and the opportunity to combine modern infrastructure (solar power, district heating) with tradition through its use as a notary’s office.
