A home meant to last a lifetime has to hold many kinds of life at once: quiet daily routine, guests who stay for a while, and evenings when the whole house fills with people. In Moreton Bay, Australia, Ocean View Residence is conceived around exactly that range. SPECTRUM Architecture is designing the multi-level house as a permanent family home, equally prepared to welcome guests for comfortable stays and to host large formal events, and this residential architecture begins with the panorama that gives the project its name.
That panorama shapes the house from the start. Rising fourteen meters across three levels, the residence organizes itself vertically, with each level holding its own part of the household's life: a private world below ground, shared living at the center, and rest above. Wide, sweeping spaces keep the surrounding views present throughout, and functions are distributed with care, letting the space itself remain the main feature while every room stays practical and easy to use. Openness and order work together.
Natural, raw finishes give the architecture its character. Paired with natural materials, abundant daylight, and a neutral palette, they keep the interiors calm and let the setting outside carry the atmosphere of each room. At the center of the house, nature moves from the window into the plan itself.
Within a grand atrium at the heart of the residence stands an existing tree, preserved and brought inside. The tree becomes the anchor of the house, a living point of reference around which its spaces are arranged, while the atrium works as a well of light, drawing additional sunlight deep into the interiors. Its biophilic presence carries the project's intention to create an urban oasis. Daily life turns around a living thing that was here before the walls.
Around this green core, the ground floor is given to shared life. Living, reading, dining, cooking, and music flow together in one airy open space, where a library with its ladder and a dedicated piano area remain in view of the living room as the panorama extends beyond. Outside, a generous terrace with a pool and a sunken lounge blurs the line between indoors and outdoors, and a gym, spa, sauna, and barbecue area carry the day into leisure. A VIP guest room completes a floor suited to both family evenings and large events.
Above, the first floor divides into two wings, the master bedroom suite to the northeast and the guest suites to the northwest, joined by a sky bridge that becomes a place to pause over the views. Below ground, the house turns inward. A showroom for fourteen cars presents the collection almost as sculpture, its dark tones and decorative lighting tracing each curve within a minimalist frame. A board room, an office, a lounge, a wine cellar, a private den, and a cinema complete this lower world, where light arrives from an unexpected source: through the glass floor of the pool, caustics drift across the office, the edge of the lounge, and the terrace, shifting with the sun as the day moves on.
Designed to hold many kinds of life, this residential architecture finds its center in a single gesture. Ocean View Residence gathers everything around a tree that was here first, and that the house has chosen to keep.
