This apartment is located in a beautiful historic complex in the center of Turin made of 4 different buildings and a superb internal courtyard adorned with statues. The entire complex has been refurbished and we have designed the complete renovation of one of these apartments located on the third floor. The project has been totally custom- designed for the client, a swiss sixty-years-old gentleman with a very special and intense life, who wanted to create his own ‘buen retiro’ in a tailor-made space full of the intense memories of his life. We have started from the design of a new layout of the apartment, and then we have done all the technical drawings for the construction company and for the client as well. We have decided all the details with him and we have chosen together all the materials, the lightings and the furniture.

The apartment consists of a living room, with a little studio area, a kitchen, a guest bathroom, and a bedroom with an attached bathroom and a walk-in-closet. We have chosen to have 3 different kind of floorings - oak wood, carpet and tiles - in order to distinguish the different areas. The differentiation of areas has been further emphasized by the creation of different volumes realized using drywall ceilings (in the entrance, in the living room and in the 2 bathrooms) and we also have realized a step for the sleeping area. For the walls we have decided to use white painting for the whole house, except for the main wall of the living room, that we have made with a concrete effect, and for the walk-in- closet, for which we have opted for a deep petrol blue in order to create a soft atmosphere and the sensation of being in a sort of luxury store.

The 2 bathrooms have been treated as boxes, that means we have created 2 environments characterized by a single color: a lighter grey for the guests one and an ardesia black for the private one. Finally we have designed most of the furniture in order to create a special and unique space for our client. This means the kitchen table, the 2 coffee tables and the tv cabinet, for which we have used a mix of solid oak wood and satin black iron. We also designed the bed and the sofa. A special mention goes to the lamp near the bedroom that is a wonderful Le Corbusier piece called Lamp de Marseille and the 2 pieces of tree trunk chosen as bedside tables.
