PAMA House is a deeply heartfelt project by the architects at LADD Jsc. and THREEPLUS Design, inspired by the eldest son’s desire to build a home as a gift for his parents—a place of tranquility and warmth where they can enjoy their golden years surrounded by family.
At the onset of the design process, the biggest challenge for the architectural team was optimizing the space on a narrow 5x20m plot with only one open side. To address this, the skylight system was designed as a vertical light axis, not only centrally positioned but also placed along the staircase and at the rear of the house. These light shafts bring natural light and fresh air to every living space, from the living room, kitchen, and dining area to the bedrooms and supporting spaces on the upper floors. Light flows through glass layers, casting natural shadows and expanding the sense of space throughout the house, creating an airy and pleasant atmosphere despite having only a single open frontage.
The facade of PAMA House combines modern design elements with familiar, traditional Vietnamese touches. Gentle curves reminiscent of Vietnam’s traditional kite shape are paired with vertical steel louvers, filtering light and ensuring necessary privacy for the family while making the facade look like a lively painting that changes with the sunlight throughout the day.
Upon entering PAMA House, the seamless connection between the living room, kitchen, and dining area is enhanced by an intermediate space featuring a central skylight. The skylight brings natural light, broadens the space, and strengthens the interaction between the shared living areas and the private spaces on the second floor, allowing family members to always feel each other's presence within the home. Additionally, the first-floor intermediate space features intentionally designed steps that double as seating platforms, providing spots for resting, displaying decorative items, and adding flexibility and functionality to the home.
The staircase in PAMA House is designed as a unique journey through each floor. From the first to the third floors, the staircase runs alongside a narrow, elongated skylight, creating a spatial experience marked by light and height, as if walking through a vertical corridor of light. However, from the third floor to the rooftop, the experience changes completely. The staircase is integrated with planters and natural light, opening up to a rooftop garden that feels like a paradise. Here, the staircase is not merely a functional element but a connection between humans and nature, between indoor living and outdoor openness, bringing a sense of relaxation and closeness to nature.
PAMA House is more than just a residence; it is an experience in connected living that fosters relationships among people and with nature. Every detail, from the skylights and staircase system to the facade and rooftop garden, has been designed to evoke a sense of peace and warmth. This is not just a place to live but a place to connect, to find serene moments shared with family members.
