PARK 20|20 - FOX VAKANTIES

William MCDonough + Partners as Architects

Occupying a prominent site at the entrance to the William McDonough + Partners designed Park 20l20 development in the Netherlands, Fox Vakanties, a Dutch internet travel booking organization specializing in distant, exotic destinations, is the latest company to take up residence. With a high ambition for design sustainability, the office headquarters embodies and colorfully celebrates both global and local diversity and cultures. The exuberant design is anchored by the company’s “Travel Theater” with its undulating and sculptural folded fabric skin that becomes a glowing beacon at night.

The first project at Park 20l20 to achieve BREEAM “Excellent” designation, the Fox Vakanties building dynamically responds to its site with an upper building mass that houses offices and angles to self-shade on the south side while opening towards the park to the north with a colorful glass façade. The upper offices visually “float” above a vegetated base of common areas that provides habitat for local bird species. A conference center opens towards an elevated garden space while an interior atrium skylight that provides ample interior daylighting. Slimbouwen technology, which employs a panelized floor system with separate prefabricated services, demonstrates an integrated system that helps to reduce volume, waste, and construction time while allowing flexibility and demountability. Interiors are designed to both connect occupants to each other and to the world through equitably and sustainably sourced materials that are healthy for human and ecological health.

SUSTAINABLE AND ADVENTUROUS HOLIDAYS FOR FOX

Buro Bogaarts Interiordesign as Interior Architects

Buro Bogaarts has supplied the design for the sustainable and adventurous interior FOX on Park Holidays 2020, the first sustainably built business park of the Netherlands. Buro Bogaarts was already involved at an early stage in the creation of the new home of FOX. The design incorporates the latest developments in the area of the cradle to cradle principle to the smallest detail. The new environment of FOX holidays is an inspiring exotic palette of colors and textures. The architecture, the interior and the footprint of the building have been awarded the label of BREEAM Excellent. On June 12, 2012 the official opening takes place.

Design In the interior elements from different parts of the world were put together. This has resulted in an exotic and special mix. In the theater, the throbbing heart of the building, the visitor in a modern way is able to experience the diversity of cultures in the world. Here the adventure for many visitors comfortably start. Above the theater, are the office floors. In addition to flexible work space is created for formal and informal consultations, meetings and concentration.

Each floor represents a continent and the influences of Africa, Latin America and Asia are very noticeable. Symbols from these cultures adorn the different rooms. We chose a white base color interspersed with exotic accents. The language of form and color schemes can be found in images, patterns, fabrics, plants and materialization. With the high green wall in the mezzanine floors are all linked together and do the various colors and patterns together.

Materials The selected materials comply fully with the C2C principle, a closed cycle for materials, energy, waste and water pursues. The origin of materials, manufacturing, transportation, vulnerability, cleanability and possible re-use, everything is weighed. In addition, the materials selected for maximum color, appearance and carefully assessed against the BREEAM and Cradle to Cradle guidelines and principles.

FOX Holidays is part of the AA. Park 2020 is the first sustainably built business park of the Netherlands. The new accommodation is architect designed and built by the internationally recognized design firm in the field of sustainable construction; William Mc Donough + Partners. A unique project, with the certified BREEAM excellent label.
