This extensive project entailed the full gut renovation of a sprawling, 4,000-square-foot pre-war apartment situated on prestigious Park Avenue on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Having sat abandoned and neglected for many years, the residence required a complete overhaul—not just cosmetically, but structurally and mechanically—to rescue its historic bones and breathe new life into the space.
Our primary objective was to reimagine the outdated, compartmentalized footprint into a highly functional, fluid layout tailored for modern living. We strategically reconfigured the floor plan to seamlessly accommodate the needs of the owners’ growing young children, by designating public and private areas while simultaneously integrating a sophisticated, private home office to support a productive remote work lifestyle.
Visually, the apartment embraces a timeless, sophisticated aesthetic. Every room features a curated, neutral color palette designed to act as a serene backdrop. This intentional neutrality ensures the home will effortlessly adapt to the family's evolving tastes and changing needs over the coming years.
Storage was paramount in maximizing the apartment's footprint. We designed an abundance of custom millwork throughout the home, striking a perfect balance between open display and concealed utility:
Every material—from the durable, high-end stone surfaces to the custom hardware—was meticulously sourced with both elevated aesthetics and everyday practicality in mind, resulting in a luxurious yet resilient family sanctuary.
