The ground floor of the Parkhotel Beau Site was to be modernized. The historical structure with the castle-like expression from the outside and the rather austere character inside the hotel were to be preserved. It should be cozy and modern, stand out from other hotels in Zermatt, but also attract regular and younger guests as well as walk-ins with various dining options in 'The Grill', '3 Seasons', 'Bar 1907' and the 'Veranda'.
From a logistical point of view, the narrow timeframe of 6 weeks for the entire renovation and the tight budget called for precise and price-conscious planning, which also included difficult transport routes in the car-free Zermatt. From a design perspective, creating a contemporary and bold space whilst paying respect to the existing historical structure was an interesting challenge.
The colours and materials chosen for the different areas are related to the historical structure of the Belle Epoque, alpine activities and the local nature. The public spaces such as the hotel entrance, reception and lobby are characterized by colours such as fir green and ice water, black and red in the restaurant "The Grill" and antique pink in the "3 Seasons".
The bold and consistent choice of colours and their composition give an inviting feeling of familiarity.
