Party Hall By The Pond

Livre Arquitetura as Architects

This party hall with approximately 200 m2 is located next to a natural pond within a condominium in the city of Belem, in the middle of Brazilian Amazon. We had the reading that the project needed to be the supporting one in the middle of that scenario, and we decided for a simple architecture and integrated to the environment.

This project was conceived to connect the surrounding nature with the interior of the building, bringing its users to contemplate the landscape. In this way, we created two main sectors: an outdoor space composed of a 19mx3m balcony that projects over the lake; the other consists of a simple volume, made of glass and brise-soleil, allowing artificial air conditioning and solar control, due to the Amazonian climatic aspect.

For the interior space it was used a restricted color palette focused in dark tones, so as not to call attention to the facade. The furniture follows simple lines and an architecture without ornaments, seeking to respect the preponderance of the landscape. In addition, the materials used (black slate, unpolished stones, leather, and wood) are also a reflection of this search for mimicry.

The large cooking island is made of levitated granite that refers to the way it is found in nature: porous, matte, and rustic. To guarantee this effect, technological solutions were used that allowed us to fill the material's porosities chemically. This guaranteed protection against stains, without the need for polishing, maintaining the natural appearance of the product.

We chose to illuminate only what is necessary, ensuring that artificial light does not remove the protagonism of the surrounding environment.

In the vicinity of the main building, small interventions were also made, one of which was to create an access and contemplative space over the water's eye and the other to create a forest of native species on the main access path. This route was designed to generate successive surprises and multisensory interactions that reinforce the user's connection with nature.
