Pavillon TERE a pavilion located in an idyllic environment, surrounded by palm trees and water in Ivory Coast, a tropical region of West Africa. Located 100 Km away from hectic Abidjan, Assinie-Mafia has become a favorite destination for the Abidjanese on the weekends. Inspired by its context, the aim is to emphasize the meaning of local and sustainable, through specific choices in design and construction techniques.
As part of a sustainable approach, the identity of the Pavillon TERE is resolutely local - both architecturally and in terms of the building material chosen: earth. A soft and warm material, the use of earth allows us to explore the technique of rammed earth construction, through the production of walls at strategic locations (East and West) of the house. They protect from direct sunlight and allow effective thermal inertia, while offering beautiful aesthetics through variations in color pigmentation. A sloped and high roof is designed in order to allow thermal comfort. The space between the roof and interior volumes (faux plafond) acts as a buffer through which air circulates and the warm air is evacuated. In a constant search to achieve a local identity, the wood (for structure) and local stone terazzo (for floor) were carefully chosen. In addition, Koffi & Diabaté Architectes both selected and designed some of the furniture, making Pavilion TÉRÉ a complete project, from architectural design to the lifestyle details of the residence.
