Peace of Mind Technology (POMT) Experience Centre, by Hammond Studio
The vision for Workshop by POMT started in 2009 when two technology engineers formed the consultancy firm ‘Peace of Mind Technology – POMT’.
They wanted to create a facility that showcased the best collaborative technologies, furniture systems integrated with technology, agile working technologies and digital artwork using product available from leading manufacturers around the globe.
The facility is a workshop, a showroom, a workplace, a gallery and an event space, all within a heritage listed, boutique office building.
This formed the brief for Hammond Studio to create a flexible and innovative space that serves many functions, but not at the compromise to aesthetics.
Our first step was to understand the structural grid dimensionally and create a fit out plan that showcased it, all columns and structure is exposed and highlighted using lighting or contrasting finishes on adjacent fit out surfaces. All new mechanical and fire services have been plotted in a way that maximises visibility to heritage linings and daylight penetration through sky lights and York Street façade windows. Highly integrated technology is partnered with heritage features in a ‘old meets new’ complimentary relationship that welcomes and inspires guests to journey throughout the space to discover this synergy of industrial and technological revolutions.
What was the brief?
Apart from being technology centre, the space needed to be purposeful and provide a variety of unique yet practical experiences for their clients and internal teams. The space is designed with two distinct applications:
1. Experiential meetings and events where guests can utilise the best and most innovative technologies such as immersive / AR systems, large format seamless displays, analogue and digital capture systems, interactive screens, conferencing & collaboration
2. Real world prototyping, evaluation and proof of concepting of various technology platforms and hardware solutions
Aside from the technology itself the most innovative feature of the space is how seamlessly the experiential elements such as projection mapping, switch glass / transparent surfaces, wireless charging, immersive audio, DALI controlled LED lighting, mobile access control and more are aesthetically integrated into the heritage surround.
