The duplex penthouse in Knokke, Belgium underwent an interior renovation following a devastating fire, fortunately without any casualties. The fire left the apartment in a stripped-down state, requiring a fresh design approach to reimagine the space.
The new design incorporates organic shapes and smooth lines to create an intriguing connection between the lower and upper levels. The use of curved steel railings draws inspiration from ship architecture, adding an interesting aesthetic element. Throughout the interior, simple and timeless materials such as dark oak wood, white steel railings, white flooring, green carpet, and marble are consistently used.
The mezzanine level features railings made of bent steel, resembling the bow of a ship. The perforations on the metal surface create captivating shadow patterns on the floor, adding a graphic element to the space. The office desk, situated in the bow, offers a magnificent view of both the hinterland, sea, and harbor.
Visually connected to the living space below through a circular window, the sauna on the upper level seamlessly blends with the overall design.
On the lower level, the spaces are interconnected through gracefully curved lines on the ceiling, rounded corners of the furniture, and the use of continuous materials.
