Located in the heart of Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, Randwick Modern, by architects Sandbox Studio, is an example of modernist architecture seamlessly integrated into a period home.
The modern addition is thoughtfully designed to complement the existing structure, creating a unique and harmonious blend of old and new. The design incorporates sleek lines, a minimalist aesthetic, and an emphasis on functionality.
The intention was to create a tranquil and refined living environment for the owners, a young family. The natural light that fills the property creates a sense of warmth and comfort, making it an ideal space for relaxation and entertainment. The project has a mostly neutral aesthetic, with colour and texture being provided through natural stone, natural timber, and feature tiles.
The existing home was completely restored throughout, and includes a ground floor rear addition containing a new open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, laundry, bathroom. The first floor contains a master bedroom with a walk in robe and en suite, a family bathroom, as well as an attic addition with dormer window to the front. The kitchen and dining area open directly onto a private terrace with stone paving and bench seating. Skylights were strategically placed to maximise natural light throughout.
