This handsome five-storey Georgian house lies in the Borough of Camden, moments from Regent’s Park.
The house had been much altered over its 200 year history, having been converted to a nursery, and most recently to a HMO with eight bedrooms. Considerable changes had resulted in the loss of many original details.
This project reinstated the property as a family home, with a principal kitchen and dining room over the first floor spaces. The house is however flexible enough to accommodate extended family during frequent visits: the lower ground and top floors can be used with a degree of independence, with additional kitchens at each level.
The first floor features exposed original floorboards, reinstated period details and joinery in green terrazzo and oak.
A new two-storey rear extension provides additional living and dining spaces. These are finished with rotary cut and flatsawn douglas fir ceilings throughout. A courtyard lightwell was formed to separate the extension from the rear facade, thereby restoring the rear facade to its original condition.
Decorative wrought ironwork balustrades and a period front door were reinstated to the front of the property.
