The classical council building is the only remaining building on the Luisenplatz, the city center, in Darmstadt with a historical background. After its destruction in WWII and following reconstruction shortly after, it is now registered office of the regional council. Over time the original structures and spatial connections were severely disturbed by installations and problematic utilisations.
The planning objectives were therefore the reorganization of the spatial situation, the clarification of the route relations, the support of the representative character of the premises by improving the lighting concept and redesign of the furniture, the renovation and preservation of the built volume, the reorganization and equipment of the office space according to today's requirements.
All new elements and fittings have been harmoniously integrated with clear readability at the same time. The conversion is intended to form the basis and model for the further refurbishment and remodeling of the entire building and to raise awareness of its significance for the center of Darmstadt.
