Residence in Johannesburg

Residence in Johannesburg

The design of the house had to fulfil a range of client requirements, the primary of which was for the flexibility of the relationship between living spaces to allow for maximum integration and/or privacy depending on family lifestyle requirements. Similarly the living spaces had to provide as seamless as possible relationship with the garden, be it visual or physical, as the garden was intended to be designed as an extension of the living spaces of the house.

The clients requirement was for contemporary clean architecture which is expressive of their character as a young contemporary fun loving urban family.

The material palette of the house was intended to be a limited, utilising a range of neutral architectural materials such as concrete, steel, glass, timber and plaster textures. The application of the materials to the building and the interiors is done in such a way as to enhance the blurring of indoor and outdoor spaces.
