For this canal house on Amsterdam’s Keizersgracht, Atelier Markx transformed the original four-bedroom layout into an exclusive residence tailored entirely to the client’s lifestyle.
Through strategic spatial interventions—including lowered ceilings, raised floors and bespoke solutions—the design seamlessly combines functionality with luxury. Inspired by the warm, masculine aesthetic of the 1960s, the interior features rich walnut, soft curved forms and refined material contrasts.
A freestanding walnut volume forms the heart of the private wing, integrating both the master bathroom and a concealed guest bathroom. In the living area, a custom-designed kitchen, natural stone dining table and spacious lounge come together as one cohesive living space.
Materials such as raw concrete, suede, bronze-tinted mirrors, tinted glass and champagne-coloured detailing add depth, warmth and sophistication. The result is a timeless, bespoke interior where architecture, craftsmanship and the client’s lifestyle are perfectly balanced.
