Location and Context

Temperate climate. Large site within wild grasses and trees. 360 views with primary views to the south. The site is located on southern slope at the top of the hill.

Brief

A 5 bedroom family home with plenty entertainment space. The design was to take advantage of several defined views and landmarks.

Design Response

Spread the massing over large area – thus engulfing some of the landscape. Encompass the landscape. Utilize the slope. Views. Natural materials, white contrast. Suspended roof. Open undisturbed spaces. View the south view while still enjoying the north light.

The shear size of the site encouraged the design to spread out over the hill and encompass some of the landscape in form of a green courtyard space. Two linear pavilions were created for formal and informal living spaces, kitchen linked the two forms. This arrangement allowed for both pavilions to get north light and still preserve the primary views to the south.
