Located in the vibrant and historic neighborhood of Príncipe Real in Lisbon, the RNSM Apartment is a renovation project for a 120 m² residence, configured as a T2+1. The intervention sought to adapt the existing space to contemporary living standards while preserving the structural integrity and character of the original construction. The design reflects a careful balance between tradition and modernity, comfort and refinement.
The apartment retains its original exterior stone masonry walls, while the interior was completely reconfigured with updated materials and finishes. The flooring throughout the main areas is oak hardwood with a matte varnish, contributing to a sense of warmth and continuity. Walls and ceilings were finished in off-white (RAL 9010), using plaster and plasterboard to create a clean, timeless backdrop.
The two bathrooms were entirely updated, with floors and walls clad in Tundra Grey marble, offering a sense of calm and material consistency. These spaces are further enhanced by radiant underfloor heating, ensuring both comfort and luxury in daily use.
Bespoke carpentry elements, including wardrobes in oak with a matte stained finish and lacquered MDF doors, reinforce the apartment’s cohesive and elegant language. The external decks were finished in natural wood, extending the warmth of the interior to the outdoor areas.
High-performance PVC window frames by Deceuninck with double glazing were installed, ensuring acoustic and thermal comfort. Sanitaryware includes wall-mounted toilets by Geberit and pieces by Duravit and Sanindusa, with faucets and fittings by Bruma in a black Night Sky finish.
The apartment is equipped with Berker Serie 1930 switches and technical lighting by DeltaLight. Comfort is further ensured with a Mitsubishi air conditioning system, while appliances from Smeg and Siemens were integrated throughout the kitchen and service areas.
This project exemplifies a contemporary approach to apartment living in Lisbon’s urban core—combining material quality, discreet technological integration, and architectural sensitivity within one of the city’s most iconic neighborhoods.
