A legacy Indian fashion brand renowned for its unique prints and colourful sarees, Satya Paul’s New Delhi store has been reimagined to reflect its evolving identity and enrich the shopping experience for its discerning clients. Under the guidance of Rajesh Pratap Singh, then Creative Director, the brand aimed to fuse contemporary ideas with its rich heritage, capturing its reinvented, modern spirit through a fresh design intervention.
The redesigned store embraces a soothing and minimal material palette to provide an effective foil for the brand’s vibrant textiles. A decluttered and fluid spatial layout splits the narrow, linear footprint into a ready-to-wear zone at the front and a saree section at the rear, with a compact accessories display and trial areas segregating them.
The shell is a monochromatic muted pink inspired by the hues of Agra red sandstone. Custom-made terrazzo rises from the floor, seamlessly carrying through into the vertical surfaces. This is juxtaposed against a complementary lime plaster surface in the same tone, descending from the ceiling. The furniture blends into this soft pink palette, ensuring the patterns of the brand’s collections remain the focus.
As part of the brand's new identity, playfully hidden away in the clothing is a discreet yet distinctive circular motif embroidered onto the garment.
This motif carries through into the store's design as well, engaging in a playful, layered dance between surfaces and voids and framing a striking circular LED screen at the rear. This dynamic sequence invites passersby and visitors to explore and engage with the store, the seemingly unified circular elements revealed as distinct surfaces that gently peel away to showcase the store’s sections and diverse offerings.
Large parasol lights wash the space with an even swathe of light, avoiding harsh shadows. Stainless steel fixtures complement the pink backdrop without drawing the eye to themselves. Bespoke hangers suspend the garments at a 45-degree angle to allow for optimal visibility of the prints.
The symbiotic cohesion of light, form, and volume transforms the store into an interactive element that goes beyond merely providing a soft canvas for the brand's creations. The design enhances the relationship between the space and the product, elevating the shopping experience into a memorable experiential journey.
