The nearly 900 square meter building gap in the Schönholzer Straße is located on the former post road of the GDR border installations. The start-up period was only supplemented by a few new buildings. Opposite, the view through the still undeveloped Bernauer Straße into the Wedding with its open urban construction.
The builders themselves have a Berlin history, which was interrupted after the construction of the wall by leaving the city. This may also explain the commitment that goes far beyond a traditional investor project. In the S1516 project - as the idea - housing should be a transnational cultural exchange.
The centerpiece of the building is the 110 square meter and 5.50 meters high "PÜA", a rentable event and conference room with complete stage technology, entrance foyers, showers and changing rooms. The guest artists can stay overnight in Tatami dormitories based on the Japanese model on the second floor. Right next door, work desks are available and in the lobby on the ground floor can be cooked for the whole troupe.
In addition to various apartments, some of them as maisonettes, the two upper floors have a residential community, in which the builders themselves reserved a room.
Instead of an underground car park the bicycle garage for e-bikes with charging stations is opened directly with an elevator. On the ground floor there is also a disabled visitor's WC and a workshop. In the passage next to the entrance, a domestic car-sharing with accompanying small cars can be offered. Also an exit to the roof terrace is reserved for all residents.
The best concept was to be found for house technology and the energy concept, regardless of the standardized energy standard: geothermal energy with 99 m deep boreholes in the garden is connected to a combined heat and power plant and heat recovery of the ventilated rooms. Also the in-house networking, the cisterns in the garden and a gray water system arose from the commitment of the builders for a forward-looking house.
The so-called "catwalks" are located on the south and the road, which are continuous loggias behind a large-format load-bearing perforated facade with external curtains. Behind it lies the actual façade level consisting of room-high glazing with sliding windows.
