Shenzhen North Railway Station

New railway constructions has been a major national project in recent years. The Shenzhen North Station is one of the largest of the three new stations in Shenzhen to be completed before 2011. The project is a complicated synthesis of multiple means of transportations. There are the Metro Line 4 and Line 6 elevated running across at the eastern end of the station building in the north to south direction, parallel and underneath runs the New Zone Boulevard, the Metro Line 5 and Pingnan Railway run across in the east to west direction.. Despite the complexity of engineering, the architectural design tried to make a clear statement that represent the spirit of the city, which we believe, is the role the train stations have always been played. The station has two main levels. The lower one has 11 station platforms, the upper level is a large space for waiting, departure and arrival. There is a 400 and 200 meters mega roof structure double layered with bands of aluminium and glass. The curving surface runs through from east to west, the entire length of the roof ,unites the eastern and the western plazas, it wraps the elevated metro stations into a integrated east façade. The roof is cantilevered 50 meters to the east, presents a powerful image and defines a super-scaled portico space.
