Located at the centre of a new hospitality precinct, its distinctive design and playful use of materials captures the airport’s movement and activity in a vibrant, engaging way. Responding to the constant movement and activity of its airport setting, ST. ALi Kiosk Melbourne Airport is playful, engaging, and full of buzz.

The brief presented several challenges. The kiosk needed to meet the requirements of a high-volume airport food and beverage offering despite having a relatively modest GFA. The design needed to be compact, efficient, and easy for staff to navigate and maintain. Located at the centre of a new hospitality precinct, the project is designed ‘in the round’ creating multiple zones for point-of-sale, seating, and entrance points for staff, meeting the high volume of demand characteristic of an airport location.

Its rich palette includes bizanto quartzite, custom-formed terrazzo, leather and brass. The laser-cut “graffiti” metal bar front was inspired by Melbourne’s laneway culture. The departure board-inspired mechanical signage evokes the heyday of 1960s travel, while the bell shape bar is reminiscent of old-style railway stations and American diners.
