Stansted Airport

Make’s airport team is currently reviewing possibilities around the expansion of Stansted Airport. Strategically we believe this to be a viable solution which will help to alleviate the UK’s aviation capacity problems. The core principles of the review include:

• Increase runway capacity from one to up to four with a new terminal that has the potential to handle up to 150 million passengers per year • To use and improve existing building and transport infrastructure as the basis of the scheme • Heathrow does not have to close

We are currently working with engineers to investigate the proposal in greater detail, however as it is not yet finalised, we are unable to share any conclusions at this point. Our position is independent and looks at the longer term strategic aviation capacity and connectivity not just for the south-east but for the UK and beyond.

Make is a studio of architects and designers committed to designing buildings, spaces and places which are as striking and innovative as they are socially, economically and environmentally responsible. Founded by Ken Shuttleworth in January 2004, the practice has already established itself as one of the UK’s foremost architectural firms. Current projects range in scale from private houses, residential towers and office developments to sports facilities, hospitals and urban masterplans.
