According to Le Corbusier, architecture is the learned game, correct and magnificent of forms assembled in the light. So it is this architecture studio located by the lake of Londrina, Brazil. The elegant composition of pure forms defines the volumetry that presents itself in different textures, bringing harmony and balance to the work.
The renovation project came from the need of transforming a house into an inspiring place for the development of projects of architecture and design, and also to provide a relaxed and pleasant space to receive clients and friends. The result was a Studio that reflects the up-to-date and contemporaneus aspects that defines the architect’s work.
Over the small side of the corner lot, you can find the main access. Wooden decks leads to the metallic stairs that takes to the access level, an open hall preceding the entrance. In the same level, a platform covered with crushed stones goes forward, like an observatory, towards the lake. The side of this platform is covered with athermic concrete slabs, where three Led pannels were installed, composing a 4m line, responsible for the visual communication of the Studio and to announce the studio´s identification in a dinamic way.
The communication from the inside out it´s not only held by visual effects, but also by sound effects. The music that is played inside the studio is subtly transmited through a stereo box installed outside, creating an environment that involves the visitor in the studio’s atmosphere once he arrives at the open hall. As a portal, the pivot door is covered with a big mirror, creating an interesting effect of depth, reflecting the landscape that surrounds the studio. In the garden of crushed stones, a Temple tree majestically arises, composing with the architecture’s straight lines.
While the combination between interior and exterior takes place through the led boxes texts and the music, internally the connection among the spaces occur through big metallic slidind doors, when opened they integrate everything in one space.
Once through the mirror door, the client is guided to the lounge, where he can appreciate the lake view, as well as the art and architecture books and magazines disposed everywhere. A projector transforms a white wall into a big screen, where images and videoclips are displayed.
The division between the production and the meeting room happens with a big metallic sliding door, that allows privacy when necessary and integrates the spaces during most part of the time. In the meeting room, the illumination is given by a sumptuous chandelier with 16 round lamps, marking the space reserved for client meetings.
The manager’s room accommodates a small kitchenette and is used for the meetings with suppliers and other brief attendances. Just like the meeting room, it can be a more reserved space when the sliding doors are closed.
From the lounge, a glass door takes to the stairs that leads to the lower floor, where the administration office is located. From this level one can access the solarium, a space expected to receive a garden.
Sustainability and savings
The condition of the lot presents the largest side facing the afternoon sun, demanding a special protection to control the direct solar incidence over this surface. Despite the disadvantage towards the orientation, this surface allows a prettier view of the surroundings. Therefore, it was developed a pannel structured with metal and overlaid with wood slats placed in an uneven rythm. These apertures grant to contemplate the lake view and at the same time it controls the solar incidence, as well as optimizing the internal air circulation, diminishing the use of the air conditioner.
The whole project was thought for simple materials, easily found in the region, consequently reducing the costs. The material used in the decks, walls surfaces and Brise pannels were supplied and installed by local metal workers. Crushed Stones, commonly used in civil construction, were employed to delimitate the garden spaces and to give an interesting texture for the surfaces, besides permitting soil permeability. The floorings are made of concrete, a cheap solution and of easy execution. The internal walls received a white acrylic coating and the external walls received textured plaster and black painting, to reinforce the volumes. Concrete boards with atermical properties cover some walls, contributing to reduce the heat, caused by the solar incidence.
