This restaurant was a first-time fit-out from shell. The brief was to create a comfortable and somewhat theatrical environment which incorporated references to the industrial era but was modern. A bespoke helical stair in rustic wood grain, curved glass and painted steel wraps around a glass lift sheathed in scaffolded bookshelves to guide the guest down from street level. The main dining hall sees an open-services ceiling over plushly-upholstered seating and tables of various materials. The kitchen was designed as a “building” within the building with a distinctive finish that visually informs the clientele that it is a primary focus of the venue, while the curved bar, crafted in limed oak, antique mirror, and patinated copper provides ample space for pre-dinner cocktails. Over-all, a comfortable balance was achieved by utilising classic and reclaimed elements with other transitional pieces, and various finishes which although modern, did not stand in stark contrast.
