As downtown Boise’s first new multifamily housing project in decades, The Fowler aims to bring density, vitality, sustainable design, and urban amenities to the area. This project is an effort to deliver the desirable urban, mixed-use housing that is essential for continued development.
The Fowler is set at the property line with a mix of retail, residential, and live/work spaces, meant to revitalize the area and provide housing units for professionals that currently have to commute to work downtown from the surrounding suburbs.
The design intent is t o humanize the building with an organic, sinuous, and rather lyrical volume, expressed as a rippling wave in plan. Above the articulated ground level, The Fowler’s five housing levels are broken down in scale with the use of a curved, sculptural form. A communal courtyard provides garden plots and outdoor cooking and dining areas for residents.
A rich pedestrian experience at the ground floor is created with quality materials, varied storefront geometries, sidewalk café seating, landscaped live/work entries, and vegetated screen walls. Parking will be integrated into the building design and accessed from the alley to protect and enhance the pedestrian experience along Broad and 5th Streets.
