Living along the river, living in the trees, living in the sky : The Hemera tower, located in Nantes — a major city in the west of France — develops more that 20 housing typologies. It was designed by french office berranger | vincent for the local developper Ataraxia Promotion.

The Hemera tower is a symbolically strong project for the city of Nantes, 6th larger metropolis of France. Hemera builds the vertical city, provides a high quality of life for its inhabitants and promotes uses and practices that enhance social links.

The program is composed of three distinct entities: a social housing building along the boulevard, five single houses along the river promenade and a tower rising to 53 meters. This juxtaposition of scales translates the urban fabric of the neighbourhood.

At the confluence of two rivers, the Loire and the Erdre, the project takes advantage of its exceptional natural landscape. It consists of a succession of layers grouped around three themes: living in the trees, living in the city, living in the sky. From the ground floor and the single houses to the top levels apartments the project also develops 23 housing typologies which anticipate changes in family structures: aging, working from home, the need for independence of a young adult entering university or an elderly person re-entering the family structure. The dwellings offer double height living rooms, large balconies and loggias with exceptional views. The apartments wind up around a vertical circulation offering a great flexibility of use and scalability.

Part of the new skyline of Nantes, the tower is a major signal in the heart of the metropolis. In the Euronantes perimeter, it is located between the central train station (currently under reconstruction by Rudy Ricciotti architects), the historical city centre and the very inovative urban development of the Île-de-Nantes.
