The Social Hub opens in Rome with a bold new vision of hybrid hospitality

Visionary and innovative in its groundbreaking approach to hybrid hospitality, The Social Hub (TSH) has officially landed in Rome—and it does so in grand style. Rizoma Architetture brings the brand’s forward-thinking spirit to life by designing the interiors of the hotel’s communal spaces.

In the Eternal City, the TSH project begins as a challenge—not just to establish a new model of hospitality and social interaction, nor merely to contribute to the urban regeneration of the former Customs House in the San Lorenzo district. The ambition goes further: to create a refined aesthetic that embodies the vibrant, multicultural kaleidoscope that defines Rome itself.

The result? A dramatic transformation of a 24,000-square-meter complex—once a symbol of Roman industrial archaeology—into a dynamic new urban hub. It’s a city within a city: a hybrid ecosystem blending hotel, co-living, and coworking under one roof. Complete with a public park, rooftop bar and pool with breathtaking views, multiple shared spaces (F&B, meetings & events, coworking, gym, community kitchen), and even the new campus of Accademia Italiana, TSH Rome becomes a cultural and social landmark.

This spirit is what inspires the interior design concept by Rizoma Architetture. Their work gives form to the complex soul of TSH Rome—a place where past and present, sacred and profane, indoors and outdoors converge in a rich, layered narrative. The result is a distinctive atmosphere of “Blended Harmony”.

At first glance, TSH Rome appears as a strikingly fluid architectural structure, nestled in lush greenery. Indoors and outdoors engage in seamless dialogue. The journey begins in the urban park, gently leading visitors into the free-flowing ground floor space, marked by a Mediterranean aesthetic that is both sophisticated and inviting. Large glass windows and interior greenery dissolve the boundaries between inside and out.

For the design of the urban furniture, external lighting, and definition of the park’s functions, Rizoma collaborated with renowned landscape architect Antonio Perazzi.

On the ground floor, the hotel’s various functions—lobby, F&B areas, meeting & event spaces, and the community kitchen—unfold around a central core, offering an immersive experience. The rooms flow into one another without barriers, connected through archways and portals. Each space stands out with its own strong stylistic identity, yet all are united through a warm, earthy color palette and recurring materials that ensure visual continuity.

Textural plaster finishes and handcrafted ceramics pay homage to Roman heritage without falling into cliché, bringing an understated Mediterranean elegance to the spaces. Through thoughtful color and material transitions, each area asserts its unique personality while remaining part of a cohesive whole. Contributing to this harmonious flow is the decorative lighting design, which evokes intimacy and emotional depth. The interplay between lighting and furnishings adds richness and nuance, transforming space into a sensorial experience.

Continuing through the ground floor, guests encounter a monumental stair-tribune, accentuated by celebratory crimson detailing. This leads down to the lower ground level, home to a hybrid meeting area, gym, and laundry facilities.

Up the stairs on the first floor lies the coworking space—an innovative workplace for creatives and companies, both local and international. Alongside closed offices, dedicated desks, and informal lounge areas, the coworking space also boasts a terrace overlooking the park—perfect for working outdoors.

But the true gem lies on the seventh-floor rooftop: a hidden oasis nestled between the city’s rooftops and the urban park, where guests can unwind poolside or sip cocktails at sunset, surrounded by lush greenery and expansive lounge seating.

For all of this—and much more—TSH Rome has become the hyper-place of connection, the place to be for locals and visitors alike. A vibrant hub where travelers, professionals, students, residents, and digital nomads come together to form a dynamic community. The very definition of a hybrid space.
