Considered by many as the perfect home for a coastal lifestyle, this residence has an ideal beachfront location backing on to coastal scrub. The block's location provides the foreground for the bigger picture dominated by the ocean in the distance to the east. The north-easterly aspect was the focus for Architect Scott Peabody's design.
The living spaces, including the kitchen, meals, dining and living room, have been planned in an informal linear arrangement opening directly on to the north-facing terrace and infinity-edge pool overlooking the adjoining protected coastal vegetation buffer. A fixed picture window, high on the southern wall in the lounge room, is a canvas for what the owner describes as a moving picture.
Screening elements are a distinctive theme, some used in a more decorative fashion. A random pattern aluminium batten screen provides shelter over the entry to the house and mirrors the two-storey volume within. Inside, screens act as a balance to the overwhelming visual transparency through the two levels.
The house has many sight lines, planned so that from wherever you are in the house you have a view of that beautiful beach landscape, the sky and the water.
