Make has been appointed as lead consultant on the design of a large secondary school in Wisbech which forms part of the first phase of the Fenland Building Schools for the Future programme. Currently under construction, the college will be transformed into an innovative and dynamic community learning facility by consolidating and redeveloping the existing school buildings across the length of the site. An existing block will be retained and renovated to form one of five 'fingers' which incorporate three learning communities, sports and theatre facilities and administration accommodation.

These fingers fan out from a central 'Eden' space that forms the heart of the school, enabling connectivity and wayfinding. This primary circulation space is designed to be flexible; large enough to accommodate all 2,000 pupils, it can be used for dining, exhibitions and assemblies as well as small group work or private study. This three storey space offers educational opportunities as well as an aesthetic that will bind the interior of the school to its exterior.Designed to encourage social inclusion, each learning community is able to accommodate a broad cross section of ages and abilities and encourages interaction between students and staff. The school has a separate community entrance ensuring that the modern facilities become an integral amenity for the wider area as a whole.
