Town hall Stavelot

This project constitutes the 4th phase of the realisation of the urban renovation of the Saint Remacle square in Stavelot. The concept of the future town hall should respect the initial logic of the reconstruction of this urban area. The challenge consists in maintaining a modern architecture that can be seamlessly integrated into an extraordinary listed site (framed by the Saint Remacle square uphill and by the abbey downhill) while being different from the phases that have already been realised and merging with them.

The extraordinary status of a town hall requests the special treatment that respects its symbolic. This project respects several constraints of typology, integration, important declivity of the natural site, of transparency and a huge programme on a narrow and limiting site.

The soberness, the precision of the treatment of the façades linked to the need of internal flexibility, the choice of proportions, materials and texture constitute the genesis of this project.
