Living within the Garden Wall
Six garden villas in Apeldoorn stand in a landscape of greenery and water, enclosed by the Tuinmuur, or Garden Wall: a large U-shaped urban block. Within this enclosure, the homes establish their own scale and character. The villas introduce a compact, vertical housing typology into the green interior of the development.

The country lane as a framework
The Veenhuizerweg, an old country lane lined with former agricultural plots, runs through the heart of the garden. The historic pattern of plots remains legible within the Garden Wall. This existing structure provides a framework for the placement of the homes and their relationship with the landscape.

Four storeys, room for variation
The garden villas are designed as four-storey houses. Their layout allows for extension and variation, including paired configurations described as 'Siamese' in the original project text. The floor plans show a basic layout and a variant, with differences at ground-floor and first-floor level.

Vertical accents in the landscape
At four storeys, the villas approach the scale of high-rise buildings in their immediate context. Dark brick facades, generous window openings and distinctive corner windows define the volumes. Their vertical form gives the homes a clear presence within the garden.
