The urban railway station „Gottesacker“ in Dortmund is located between the carriageways of the multi-lane urban clearway B1. It essentially consists of a platform approx. 75 m long and an impressive roof. The central section of the platform is supported by a concrete bridge structure whereas the western and eastern ends of the platform rest on solid ground. A curved steel structure spans the approx. 75 m long platform in such a way that there is unrestricted access to the carriages along the long sides of the platform. The steel structure supports a glass roof skin which provides weather protection for the passengers. Because of their aerodynamically curved shape, support structure and glass roof combine to suggest movement, i.e. an image which the mind of the observer associates with buildings dedicated to travel and transportation.
