This art studio is newly built adjacent to the Vincent van GoghHuis. The light-flooded pavilion is raw and subtle at the same time. Two thick copper plates form floor and roof and hold in between them vertical walls of wood. The wood refers to crates which are used to transport art. In this way architecture emphasizes the concept of temporary use by the artists-in-residence. Larch wood and bare copper were chosen because they age nicely and look better in time. Inside, wooden panels can be shifted to show or hide spaces and materials. The roof is made of glass and can be slided open, just as the front facade, to get in as much light as possible. Artists can exhibit their work in the former house of the father of Van Gogh, next to the studio. The old house is transformed into a gallery above which is the guest house. The new art studio and the reuse of the old house for artists revitalizes cultural heritage in a contemporary way. It proofs to be a boost for all parties involved.
