When Victorian Maxillofacial Surgeons approached Amicus, they had a clear mandate: revolutionise the traditional medical practice experience. Their brief called for a space that would immediately put patients at ease while supporting seamless operational flow across all touchpoints—reception, consultation rooms, procedure areas, and back-of-house facilities. The challenge lay in finding a design partner who could understand their holistic vision and deliver a space that truly embodied their patient-first philosophy.
The design process emphasised transparency and collaboration. High-resolution 3D renders allowed the client to experience the space before construction began, while staged cost planning ensured financial clarity at every milestone. This methodical approach enabled smooth progression from concept development through detailed design to fit out, with continuous client engagement ensuring the final outcome remained true to the original vision.
Innovative Problem-Solving
Complex projects demand creative solutions. Early site analysis revealed several technical constraints that required innovative approaches:
Load Management: Accommodating five heavy-duty dental chairs within existing structural limitations required strategic positioning and specialised engineering consultation to ensure both safety and optimal workflow.
Life Safety Design: Limited natural egress options necessitated a bespoke fire safety strategy. Working closely with specialist consultants, we developed code-compliant solutions that maintained the intended spatial experience while exceeding safety requirements.
Medical-Grade Infrastructure: Implementation of AS/NZS 3003:2018 compliant electrical systems required sophisticated body-protected circuitry, ensuring patient safety during all procedures while maintaining the clean aesthetic lines of the design.
Results That Matter
Our commitment to collaborative delivery yielded exceptional outcomes. Through weekly progress meetings and proactive communication, we maintained complete project transparency, enabling real-time feedback and ensuring alignment with practice objectives.
The project completed exactly on schedule with zero programme variations—a testament to thorough planning and expert execution. More importantly, Amicus delivered a space that fundamentally elevates the patient journey while supporting clinical excellence.
The completed practice demonstrates how strategic design thinking can transform healthcare delivery, creating environments where clinical functionality and patient wellbeing are perfectly balanced. This project sets new benchmarks for specialist medical fitout, proving that technical precision and human-centred design are not competing priorities, but complementary strengths.
