Viento House

G2 Estudio as Architects

As if it were following the wind that gives it its name, VIENTO is a single family houselocated in the southeastern area of San Carlos de Bariloche, surrounded by a nature reserve, Lake Gutiérrez, Cerro Catedral, and soft topographical movements crossed by a natural riverbed.

Site: Located in the highest part of the lot area, VIENTO was born as a paper which rises and folds, thus generating, in the movement of the main partitions, enveloping spaces and roofing, a set of dynamic rooms and a fluid relationship with its surroundings. The roofing that seems to be taking flight and the hollow spaces in the entry, suspended by big partitions that interact with the water flow and the natural reserve, these were the strategies used to provide the best visuals and plenty of sunlight.

Sounds of flowing water, the wind, birds and the whispering of the mountains create the atmosphere; the wonderful natural sights are surrounded by the geometry of the pleats.

Morphology – Materials: The pleats give the house its signature shape, faceted in three big movements, each of them with its own interior-exterior connection. First movement: “access tension”. It is the pleat where all the morphological development has its origin, materialized in the great movable partition wall which dominates the facade, which is also linked directly with the street that leads to the building; this relationship generates suspense for the user-spectator, inviting him to discover different spatial situations.

Second movement: “Explosion”. It conveysa sense of surprise, plasticity and spatiality, whether inside of the house or in the public area; the convergence of directions in the plates of the roof frames the core of vertical circulation and heat of the house: the main staircase. As its backbone, it carries in its DNA the same plating principle as the structure that contains it, surrounding, at the same time, the two principal fireplaces.

Its connection with the astounding natural environment is direct, close, ready to be enjoyed with every sense, and it includes sights of Cerro Catedral, Lake Gutiérrez and Cerro Ventana.

Third movement: “continuities”. Reaching out to the nature reserve and the riverbed, the enveloping shape of the house makes the best of its sights; this movement is where the private functions are located.

With the plasticity of concrete, the movements of its morphology, the warmth of its surroundings and the plasticity of the sensations it provides, VIENTO is sensory, a high-impact work of design.
