This apartment combines exposed concrete, natural wood, and steel to create a contemporary interior that balances the raw character of its material palette with a warm atmosphere shaped by art, greenery, and design solutions tailored to the residents' daily routines. More than simply organizing the spaces, the custom millwork assumes an architectural role, defining circulation, accommodating multiple functions, and establishing a continuous language that connects every area of the home.
The integration of the living room, dining area, and kitchen defines the project's primary spatial gesture. By removing visual barriers, the layout enhances the perception of openness and allows different activities to coexist naturally, while a sequence of wooden volumes organizes the space without relying on conventional partitions.
At the entrance, a single millwork element incorporates a bench, shoe storage, and the powder room door, carefully concealed within the joinery. This same design strategy extends into the kitchen, where wood panels wrap around the sink area, creating a framed volume that emphasizes this functional core, almost as if it were a box inserted into the space.
Positioned at the center of the social area, the kitchen island brings together food preparation, support space, and casual dining in a single element. Suspended above it, a lightweight steel structure integrates the range hood, shelves for decorative objects, and plants, subtly defining the kitchen without interrupting the visual continuity of the apartment.
Opposite the island, the bar stands out as a sculptural piece carved from Verde Guatemala marble, its recessed base creating the impression that the countertop floats above the millwork. Running alongside the dining area, a continuous planter introduces vegetation into the space, softening the contrast between concrete, stone, and steel while drawing natural light deeper into the interior.
The residents' everyday routines also informed several design decisions. The needs of their cats were seamlessly incorporated into the architecture without becoming the project's focal point. The living room shelving features carefully designed openings that transform the unit into a vertical pathway for the animals, while the laundry room houses the litter box, accessed through a discreet pet door integrated into the joinery. Above it, a fluted glass enclosure allows natural light to filter through, preserving the brightness of the social area while maintaining a clear separation between the two spaces.
Within the private quarters, the millwork continues to define and organize the layout. A wardrobe with light-colored slatted doors establishes the transition between the social spaces and the primary suite while maintaining visual continuity throughout the apartment.
Wood extends across the headboard, seamlessly connecting the floating bedside tables and the workspace into a single composition. This same volume discreetly conceals the entrance to the bathroom through a hidden door, reinforcing the clean and uninterrupted reading of the space.
The bathrooms follow the same material language found throughout the apartment. In the powder room, mirrored glass enclosing the shower provides privacy without compromising the perception of spaciousness. In the primary bathroom, an integrated bench, side niches, and a floor-to-ceiling recessed niche incorporate storage directly into the architectural composition, reinforcing the clarity of the design and the careful integration of every functional element.
The material palette was conceived as a neutral backdrop for a curated collection of original artworks and boldly colored furnishings. Warm tones found in the sofa, counter stools, dining chairs, and Persian rug echo the reds, pinks, and oranges present in the paintings, while vibrant blue accents create moments of contrast throughout the apartment.
Rather than serving a purely decorative purpose, the artwork becomes an integral part of the architectural composition, helping shape an environment where materiality, everyday life, and personal identity are woven together into a cohesive narrative.
