On the north-western coast of Sicily, Villa Uzeta establishes a discreet, low-density architecture that blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.

The site is defined by two dominant natural features: a rocky ridge crossing the plot transversely and an olive grove structuring the agricultural landscape. These elements serve as generative matrices for the design, guiding the placement of volumes to preserve sightlines and maintain the agricultural use of the land. The building is organized on a single level, composed of two partially recessed volumes, minimizing visual impact and respecting the scale of the rural settlement.

The project follows the natural contours of the terrain, arranged on two main levels. The upper level accommodates the solarium and pool, with no emerging structures, while the lower level houses the living spaces, organized around open courtyards. Recessing the volumes allows unobstructed views of the rocky ridge, which becomes the dominant spatial element and natural boundary of the inhabited area.

The house reinterprets the Sicilian rural typology of an open courtyard dwelling. The two volumes, staggered and rotated ninety degrees, create green patios that enhance natural light and microclimatic comfort. Day and night areas are distributed between the volumes, connected by a lightweight Corten steel canopy that acts as both a climatic and visual filter, shielding the glass surfaces and reducing reflections toward the landscape. The canopy also mediates between interior and exterior spaces, immersed in the olive grove, regulating visual permeability throughout the architecture.

The landscape is not a backdrop but an integral part of the inhabited space: the rocky ridge to the north and the rows of olive trees to the south define perceptual boundaries, dissolving the line between built and natural environment.

Materials reinforce the dialogue with the context: light-colored plaster, local Custonaci stone, and glass are combined with Corten steel, chosen for its earthy tones. Exterior areas feature draining stone paving and stabilized earth, while the dark-finished infinity pool recalls the colors of traditional rural watering basins, blending harmoniously into the landscape.

Overall, Sicilian Landscape House presents a measured and quiet architecture that reinterprets Mediterranean rural tradition through a landscape-driven and sustainable approach, recognizing the surrounding territory as the true material of the project.
