A young mechanical engineer who becomes independent from the familiar business and start his own path. The installation of a household maquila workshop in the yard of his house. The workshop grows and takes over the other spaces until it requires the formal expansion of a new level.
To development –initially led by way of self- construction – the professional exercise of the office is added ADMA Architects.
Along with the analysis of processes, flows and needs of work, for its optimal reorganization in the workshop existing, the extension was projected towards the second level: a full space for the installation of sewing machines.
The project was carried out with three clear objectives:
First, take advantage of the resources and the available surface; then, increase the performance of the workshop and, the most important, improve the working atmosphere of the twenty-five people who come together on a daily basis.
For the first, the solution was found in the selection of materials that could be apparent: joist and vault 40 x 20 block and polished cement. This meant, to time, the challenge of taking care of handling and details during the entire construction process. The facilities remained frankly exposed to emphasize the industrial atmosphere trial in a sober space nuanced by breaks views of the windows and a 12 meter lattice.
Said latticework -which strategically intersperses gaps in glass and free holes– allowed to control the entrance of natural light and currents necessary for ventilation that regulates the interior temperature. What he pointed mainly to the second objective: the performance of the days, either in the rainy season or in the hot season.
Giving continuity to the concept of interior space and approvetching the remainder of the material used, a bench with planter from the assembly of vaults.
This resulted in a terrace space for spreading foundation and rest of the workers of the workshop.
The inclusion of architectural planning not only means the growth and evolution of the workshop, as a business, but the sum of spatial, material and economic values and, above all, the dignity of work.
