Located in a leafy quiet street in Woollahra, Sequence Studio was initially engaged by a family of four to turn their newly purchased house into a home that suited their lifestyle. The house had good boned and is set in an ideal location, but a previous renovation to the property had left the layout impractical and the interior dull and dated. The brief was to create a warm, inviting and elegant space for the clients, their kids in their late teens, and the much loved two dogs.

A crucial requirement was to reconfigure the rooms to allow for the existing interior footprint to be better utilised. Gathering in the home with friends is a regular occurrence, and part of the floor plan changes included creating two living spaces at the opposite end of the ground floor, allowing the teens and adults to separate with their friends. A more formal living room was kept towards the front of the home, while a large kitchen/living space overlooking the garden at the rear is a more casual space filled with solid timber floorboards and classic Carrara marble as a backdrop to the kitchen.

Between the two living spaces sits a previous bedroom that has been converted into a study. A long built in timber double desk and storage have been added, creating a comfortable space for the family to work and study from home.

Also located on the ground floor was an existing utilitarian combined laundry and bathroom space. Carrara marble mosaic tiles, classic chrome Brodware tapware, and warm timber tones were introduced to the space to create a sense of depth, as well as full height joinery cupboards to conceal the washer and dryer and a storage space. The result is a functional yet elegant space to accomodate guests as well as the family and their two much loved dogs.

With a classic neutral and textural palette in terms of the built form, it was important to inject colour through the soft furnishings and art. Pieces from Great Dane, Ke-Zu and Armadillo fill the home, with art from Curatorial and Co throughout.

The family love being in, with a puppy recently joining the family. The outcome is a refined and warm home the family can enjoy together and with friends.

A renovation to the property by a previous owner had resulted in a clumsy layout and unnecessary secondary internal staircase. The main kitchen/ dining space was too small for entertaining, with the living space at the other end of the floor plan hindering the ability for the family to spend time together. A combined laundry and bathroom space on the ground floor felt utilitarian and unwelcoming.

An interior re-configuration was crucial, to allow the existing interior footprint to work for the family. The kitchen/dining area was expanded to include a living space, with the large adjacent bedroom reduced to become a practical study. The ground floor laundry/bathroom was reconfigured to hide the practical elements away in full height joinery, while timber, a classic stone and a large butlers sink was introduced to create a sense of elegance while still being a functional space for the family and their dogs.
