It was an opportunity to employ a local-inspired approach in identity, with ZCOVA being homegrown jewellers. The design language blends elements of Malaysia’s tropical nature and cultures. Our attempt at going against the grain of generic jewellery stores is showcased in the use of ambient lighting and organic features through the use of earthly tones and subtle textures.
The prominent material is the use of wood in wall finishes. The fluted wooden panels that adorn the walls adds visual texture and a subtle sense of structure in a space with rounded edges in which the fine lines contrast with. The warm wood tones bring warmth to the coldness of jewellery lighting and display features.
The design curvature showcases the approach in enhancing the brilliance of ZCOVA’s precious stones. Organic shapes with matte and textured finishes offer stark contrasts with the jewellery’s smooth, polished surfaces and intricate edges. The rounded corners of the space, of the floating consultation tables, and curved display base of the moss installation emphasise softness and fluidity.
The moss installation laid at the base of the gold-framed glass vitrines serves as a soft backdrop of the display area. It welcomes the curious at entry point, and leads them through a journey inward, where the featured pieces are positioned in the centre atop the moss-covered display plinth. This feature also marks a termination of space between the display area and the consultation area.
