The projects consists in the extension of a pre-existing house —built in 2009—, resulting in a building that explores the concept of ‘coliving’ as an alternative to traditional housing, creating a habitat where a community of people with common interests and affinities can share social and vital experiences.
COLIVING INSIDE OUT goes far beyond the usual community residence by integrating cultural activities, a youth association, administration services and a sports area. In order to shape this complex habitat of shared spaces, a system of stratified organisation seems optimal, according to which is floor is related to a program and quality: the sports court in the massive semi-basement; cultural services in an open, diaphanous ground floor; residential spaces in the strictly compartimentalized first floor and the free roof as ludic space. The functional autonomy of the different floors contrasts with the dialogue between the preexisting and the new construtions, bound together thanks to two elements: a linear library in the inside and the metallic lattice in the outside. The 20m long wooden library serves as a reference tho the user, structuring the ground floor and sewing the old and new buildings together.
In the outside, the metal lattice-like structure acts as a support to ‘green up’ the building: integrated flowerpots, watering conducts and cable trellis constitute an environmental device to allow the growth of natural species, reducing the temperature of the most sun-exposed façade and also providing shade to the big windows of the ground floor. In the upper floor, in forms a shared balcony for the bedrooms, as a response to the need of including exterior spaces of natural character in the new residential models.
