Our client had purchased a spectacular 1.8 Hectare headland site on the small island of Jersey. A UK independent state  off the northern coast of France. The site lay within the Jersey coastal national park.

The clients brief was to build 2 houses which were to blend themselves into the rugged headland site, be environmentally sustainable, be homely and yet make the most of the spectacular views.

Taking advantage of the clients brief we decided that the structures had to integrate themselves into the ecology and topography of the of this exposed headland.  We had to heal the damage of previous developments (an old hotel and 2 half constructed houses) all while doing justice to the spectacular 180 degree coastal views.

The indigenous environment has been allowed to permeate through, over and around the dwellings becoming the overarching reference point when viewed from the approach driveway.

In addition, the use of extensive roof gardens had also added to the overall greenery and biodiversity of the site

The houses were designed to the highest sustainable  building standards with a highly insulated envelope, air source heat pumps, as well as photovoltaic cells integrated into the roof together with Tesla Powerwall batteries to allow the house to survive off grid.

Material Used:

1. Solar Strategies Ltd – Solar Panels – SolarWorld 285W

2. Lummel GmbH & Co.KG -  Falzonal Roof Cladding

3. Door Entry IP – SSS Siedle – Delivery Box
