Balancing transparency and privacy For Samco's new office building in Heusden-Zolder, a conscious decision was made to choose a façade that does more than just finish the building. Light, visibility and comfort were key considerations. Dirk Verwoerd To draw natural light deep into the building — into the offices, kitchen, dining area and even the terrace — a perforated plate in Full Perfo R3T5 was used. De Visfabriek (The Fish Factory) is the restoration and redevelopment of a 1902 fish warehouse, abandoned for more than fifty years. Led by Firm Architects who also acted as investor and developer for the project, it transforms a derelict national monument into a resilient, future-adaptable building while retaining its cultural and industrial character. The design begins from a narrative premise: NORTH × NORTHWEST, a conceptual alignment based on the fisherman’s compass. This office building is located in a typical office and business development with the familiar rather banal contextual preconditions. An environmentally responsible office project, focused on recycling and reusing both space and materials.  Developed inside a former textile factory from the first half of the twentieth century, Oficinas Leonali seeks to revive a disused space by giving another essence to the place. Caption The project takes advantage of and rescues the original structure of the factory, adapting the building to create a new use and atmosphere within the space. Inside the factory, a free floor plan is created, which is used to generate the project with the least number of dividing walls to separate the spaces. This intervention is based on the pre-existence of a building on the plot and, taking partial advantage of its structure and foundations, generates a large platform on which a new, more efficient, representative and functional building rests. The demolition of the upper section of the original building allows for unconstrained growth from the first floor up, generating a reception area as a loggia with a large porticoed area. On this base plinth, five floors are added with peripheral work areas and a central core with a new distribution of services and vertical circulation.
