Project • By ARCO Arquitectura ContemporáneaApartments

Departamento RA

The project was conceived as an apartment that conveys a warm and contemporary atmosphere, where each space was designed to be calm, functional, and timeless. The open layout in the social areas encourages daily interaction and togetherness, while at the same time offering the possibility of being divided with sliding doors, allowing the environment to adapt to different needs. Circulation was carefully designed to be clear, achieving a natural transition between public and private zones, so that moving through the apartment feels fluid and harmonious. Jaime Navarro One of the most distinctive spaces is the office-library, envisioned not as a conventional workspace but as a Zen retreat dedicated to reading and relaxation. The solution... More

Home Again

What should a second home feel like—an escape, a pause, or simply somewhere that draws you back? In Satara, this 1,200 sq ft apartment by architect Vaishnavi Shinde, founding principal of Pune-based VSA Design Studio, is shaped around that in-between. Designed as a secondary residence for a businessman, his wife, and their two college-going sons, it is a home they return to when they want life to feel a little lighter. The brief was simple: follow Vastu Shastra principles, keep the palette minimal, and make sure the two-bedroom home is easy to maintain. From there, the design finds its rhythm in small, deliberate moves. Architectural Captures by Abhishek Chavhan “We were introduced to the site during its initial brickwor... More

The Eira Retreat

Set within the dense urban fabric of Delhi, this 1,300-square-foot residence reinterprets simplicity as an architecture of wellness and composure. The design does not pursue reduction for its own sake, but seeks clarity, spaces distilled to their most essential, tactile, and atmospheric elements.  The living room articulates the project’s ethos of composed richness. Taupe, warm beige, and earthen tones establish a grounded palette, while a grey sectional with ribbed upholstery acts as both anchor and counterpoint, combining comfort with architectural precision. Subtle contrasts emerge in the muted burgundy lounge chair and circular coffee table, while a large-scale artwork of architectural motifs deepens the spatial narrative. S... More

The Wooden Box Apartment

he project concerns the redesign of a 1960’s Athenian apartment in the neighborhood of Pagkrati in Athens. One major issue of the old spatial arrangement was the compartmentalized plan and narrow circulation spaces, that did not allow the desirable amount of light in the apartment. Panagiotis Papanikolaou Panagiotis Papanikolaou Panagiotis Papanikolaou Panagiotis Papanikolaou The aim of the proposed redesign was to allow more light in the apartment and manage to respond to the contemporary inhabitation needs of its’ future users. A ‘wooden box’, which is placed as a new distinct entity in space, becomes the core of the composition, enclosing the kitchen space within it, while also creating a dial... More

That's Good Enough

The homeowners are a retired couple, and this residence was designed as their retirement home. Therefore, the sleeping quarters are intended to meet only basic daily needs and do not include a private en-suite bathroom. The layout consists of one fully equipped bathroom and an additional powder room to accommodate everyday requirements. Image Courtesy T.M Design Studio Since the couple spends most of their time in shared areas—reading, practicing calligraphy, and enjoying music—the design emphasizes creating an open and fully functional communal space as the heart of the home. Aesthetically, the design leverages the site's natural light to create a bright, minimalist, and detail-rich environment. Image Courtesy T.M Desi... More

Foulons

The goal of this project was to create a prototype for the transformation of a urban house into a small apartments building. This typological change typically stands for the transformation of cities today. Maxime Delvaux Maxime Delvaux The main gesture was to assemble all technical programmes into one compact and vertical block. That block becomes the structuring element of the different apartments. The wooden ”moucharabieh“ becomes the implicit limit between the vertical block and the living space. Maxime Delvaux Caption Caption More
