Gårdslunden brings 39 new homes to a sheltered courtyard in the heart of Kungsholmen, Stockholm. Entering from the busy streets around Fridhemsplan, residents arrive in a green, car-free setting that feels unexpectedly calm for such a central location.
Designed by Okidoki for Alecta Fastigheter, the building contains apartments of different sizes, duplex homes and two-storey urban townhouses with private entrances. A carefully articulated structure, timber cladding, generous balconies and roof terraces give the building a distinct character while connecting the homes to the garden. Inside, tall windows bring daylight into rooms designed with a restrained palette and detailed joinery.
The landscape, designed by PAJU, is organised as a series of garden rooms for meeting, play and quieter moments. Planting and timber trellises shape the spaces around the building, while the courtyard deck collects rainwater and directs it towards the planting beds.
Gårdslunden adds housing to an existing city block and turns its inner courtyard into a place for everyday life. Okidoki Atelier developed the project's visual identity and communication alongside the architecture, carrying the character of the building and garden through to the way the homes were presented.
